Bada Bean Bada Booze is a study in duality. Coffee. Cocktails. Work. Play. Calm. Energy. My role was to help build a brand flexible enough to hold both and strong enough to scale.
Bada Bean Bada Booze launched in 2022 as a dual coffee shop and cocktail bar concept. The goal was to create a brand that could flex; morning coffee, afternoon work sessions, late-night drinks. Since inception the brand has expanded to four locations across Columbus: Italian Village, Harrison West, Grandview (inside Little Grand Market), and Quarry Trails.
This was a project in collaboration with Andrew Kern of Flat Black Commercial Visuals. I contributed to building the brand “kit of parts” identity system, spatial templates, vendor touchpoints, menu systems, and environmental design language. I also lead ongoing advertising, digital campaigns, social content strategy, and brand-level marketing as the footprint grew. I worked to keep the energy, consistency, and soul of the brand intact as it scaled across neighborhoods.
My Role
-
Bada Bean Bada Booze began with a simple question: How does a brand stay true to itself as it grows from one neighborhood hangout into a four-location experience? I shaped the brand from the inside out, establishing the vision, tone, personality, and day-to-night duality. I worked with Flat Black Commercial visuals and Between State to create the full identity system, including logo, color palette, typography, and guidelines that became the kit of parts for consistent execution across every touchpoint.
-
As we expanded, I developed spatial templates and FF&E direction to guide how each new location should function and feel. From lighting cues to seating patterns to signage placement, I created repeatable frameworks that allowed every store to maintain brand coherence despite varying physical footprints. Every interior detail worked together to bring the brand to life.
-
Inside the stores, I led the creative direction for menus, signage, vendor identity, and wayfinding systems. These elements shaped an intuitive, unified experience ensuring guests felt connected to the brand the moment they walked in, no matter which location they were visiting.
-
I managed all digital storytelling, including social content, campaigns, and community engagement. My focus was creating a recognizable online personality that tied the four locations together and helped guests feel familiar with the brand before stepping inside. I directed advertising for seasonal menus, openings, happy hours, and cultural moments that kept the brand relevant and top-of-mind.
-
I concepted and launched programming that shaped the brand’s personality such as trivia nights, collaborations with the Columbus Crew or Breakaway, seasonal activations, and other moments that gave people a reason to return. These experiences helped every location feel alive and grounded Bada in its neighborhoods.
-
Throughout rapid growth, I maintained creative oversight to ensure the identity stayed intact. Every decision, from spatial design to digital voice, filtered through the same brand foundation. The result was a unified multi-location concept that scaled quickly without losing the warmth, energy, or personality that defined the original space.
-
As the brand grew, building a loyal guest base became essential. I helped shape the loyalty strategy by identifying what customers valued most and turning those insights into repeatable touchpoints. From punch-card concepts to digital rewards, seasonal challenges, and member-only perks, I created engagement moments that made guests feel seen and appreciated. These efforts strengthened retention, increased visit frequency, and turned casual customers into brand advocates who felt personally connected to the Bada experience.
